LARRY King’s cause of death has been confirmed as sepsis weeks after CNN talk show host died at 87 years old.

The 87-year-old passed away in hospital on January 23 weeks after contracting Covid-19.

But a death certificate confirmed that his primary cause of death was sepsis, as his wife Shawn Southwick King said last month.

The certificate also confirmed he had two separate underlying health conditions that he was battling.

According to People magazine, the document lists them as acute hypoxic respiratory failure – meaning he did not have enough oxygen in his blood – and end stage renal disease, commonly known as kidney failure.

Days after the CNN talk show legend died, his wife – who he was in the process of divorcing – confirmed he did not die from Covid-19.

He also interviewed fellow chat show supremo Oprah Winfrey

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, she said: “It was an infection; it was sepsis.

“Well, he was finally ready to go, I will tell you that.

“You know, he never wanted to go but his sweet little body was just, it had just been hit so many times with so many things and once we heard the word Covid, all of our hearts just sunk.

“But he beat it, you know, he beat it, but it did take its toll and then the unrelated infection finally is what took him, but boy, he was not gonna go down easily.”

Shawn, 60, also said Larry’s mind “wasn’t right” and his “body was going.”

The actress said the process was difficult to watch as a family.

The host – who interviewed the world’s foremost politicians, sportspeople and stars over his long and illustrious career – suffered from Type 2 diabetes and from lung cancer, angina and heart attacks in recent years.

Larry filed for divorce from his seventh wife – with whom he has two sons Chance, 20, and Cannon, 19 – in August 2019 after 22 years of marriage.

It came after a stroke forced him to reevaluate his life and he cited differences in religious belief and their huge age gap as what took their toll on the marriage.

“I thought a lot about what I wanted the rest of my life to be,” Larry told People.

Though they were divorcing, Larry said he and Shawn still “love each other”

“When there are moments of unhappiness in a marriage, you can overcome it at 40, but at my age, it became a lot. I wanted to be happy.

“Separating was of course difficult. But there is nothing worse than arguing.”

He added: “I wish her nothing but the best. We love each other.”

Divorce proceedings were ongoing at the time of his death.

Larry’s handwritten will shows that he wanted all of his fortune to be left to his children

The document names Larry King Jr., 59, Cannon and Chance as beneficiaries, along with his now-deceased children Andy, 65, and Chaia, 51.

Andy died last July from what the family said was a heart attack, and his daughter Chaia died on August 19 after succumbing to lung cancer.

People reported that the handwritten will was dated October 17, 2019, two months after he filed for divorce from Shawn, who is not mentioned in the document.

Larry was married eight times – two times to the same woman.

He explained: “I got married a lot. But in my head, I’m not a marrying guy.

“When I grew up, nobody lived together. If you fell in love, you got married. And so I married the ones that I loved.

“But what I loved at 20 is not what I loved at 30 and what I loved at 30 is not what I loved at 40.”

His marriage to Shawn was his longest union, with others notching up seven years or less.

But Larry said: “I never cheated on my wives. My career always came first.”
