Fans highlight Rodrigo’s cryptic lyric “I guess you didn’t mean what you wrote in that song about me,” to Bassett’s two solo singles Common Sense and Anyone Else, which released in 2020.
In the track, Rodrigo laments the end of a relationship as she drives through the streets after getting her license, and says, “You’re probably with that blonde girl,” bringing Disney star Carpenter into the mix.
Afterward, Carpenter released a track of her own, Skin, which intensified the rumors.
The first reference to Olivia’s song came as Carpenter sings “Maybe blonde was the only rhyme,” giving her the benefit of the doubt.
